DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION| ZENFONE 3
The design is remarkable as ASUS has leveled up in terms of aesthetics and device construction. The front is covered by a 5.5 inch full HD resolution, 2.5D screen. Both sides have Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Screen is great even if it doesn’t have a AMOLED display panel. Overall, it is good, viewing angles are great and reading under sunlight isn’t a problem.
Handling is easier now as compared to the previous Zenfone iterations. The curved designs made the phone easy to grip. The glass and metallic sides added a premium feel with similar to what you may find with the Samsung Galaxy s6. Top part has the 3-mm jack and noise cancelling mic. Right side has the volume rocker and power button with the famous eccentric design. Back part has the camera which is slightly protruded, the laser has autofocus and real tone flash. Bottom area has the speaker holes with 5 magnet NXP that boost the sound experience, microphone and the new usb type c charging and data port. However this doesn’t support fast charging unlike its predecessors.

CAMERA | ZENFONE 3
The front camera utilizes 8MP with f 2.0 aperture which is ideal for selfies and groupies. The rear camera on the other hand, uses a 16MP lens with Sony sensor which is very competitive in taking pictures even in low light condition. It also utilizes a new version of pixel master and laser which locks focus very fast and provides different shooting modes making this a core feature of the new model.
The camera also has a 4-axis Optical image Stabilizer and 3-axis electronic image stabilizer which helps in focusing and making the video and shots blur-free and stable. The overall performance is far better as compared to previous Zenfone iterations. They also added a bunch of modes that can be utilized in different situations. See the sample shots below.

PERFORMANCE AND FEATURES | ZENFONE 3
So far, multitasking is a real breeze. Opening several apps on the background is not tasking on the phone. The latest qualcomm snapdragon processor performs very well which is paired with 4GB of spacious ram.
Snapdragon 625 which is the core processor of this device takes everything at ease. We have tested the device in terms of heavy graphics and intensive game including nova3, deadtrigger2, asphalt 8 and modern combat. Pokemon Go players will be also satisfied as the GPS signal locks very fast with little to no tendencies of disconnection (depends on the area, of course).
Results are impressive as there is no lag or drop in frame rates observed. There is also game genie app that helps records or stream live the actual game together with your face as you play which is a nice feature. Multitasking and opening apps from one to another is a walk in the park. This device can satisfy a gamer’s heart. Heating is present in acceptable level as it is just normal when the phone is used intensively.
Bloat wares are still present but on a personal perspective, these bloatwares are very useful. You can disable the app if you don’t have plans of using it. I believe some find this irritating as more tend to prefer the stock vanilla experience of android marshmallow. The newest version of Zenui at 3.0 I think also is a factor on the overall smoothness of device’s operation. You can still customize the phone and make it truly you’re with bunch of themes, icons and other preferences. Voice and signal connection is good also without any hiccups.
The finger print scanner which is a new feature in the Zenline is also fast in terms of finger print detection. The rectangular designs adds more premium look in the unit.
BENCHMARK | ZENFONE 3
This device has a 2.0ghz clock speed snapdragon 625 processor which is paired with adreno 506 graphics and 4gb ram with 64gb internal memory. This combo garnered an Antutu score of around 60k which is higher as compared to previous year model Zenfone 2 that has a score of around 50k.
BATTERY | ZENFONE 3
As mentioned earlier, the battery is still the same at 3000mAh. However, the snapdragon625 showcases a good battery saving feature which in which according to qualcomm can last from let say from 6am to past 12 midnight given average use.
In real life usage (for comparison), battery lasts up to 12 hours with normal to moderate use including casual games, internet browsing, wifi, and moderate call and text. Charging time (zero to full) lasts around 1 and half hour which is quick considering that this device doesn’t support fast charging. This unit utilizes theusb type c for charging and data transfer which is quite new with android smartphones.
This one is a real bang for the buck if you are really looking for a smartphone with a flagship like performance on a 20k below price. As of the moment, Zenfone 3 is priced at 18,995 pesos. For the specs, upgraded design and additional features this phone is a must see.
The latest processor and the specs with regards to the price given is already a bang for the buck for an international brand phone. Competitors like the Samsung Galaxy C7, Lenovo Motoz Play and upcoming Huawei Nova, and Nova plus utilizes the same processor but on a different price bracket respectively.
The only downsides I’ve seen so far is the unit itself feels fragileconsidering the unit is glass in front and back. This can be solved though by using an add-on case. Just make sure to use a transparent one so that the design of the premium back design is still visible.
The price also takes a toll on the budget for most Filipinos since Asusmade an international-caliber handset on a slightly cheaper cost compared to similar phones with identical specs. However, I still believe that the price is just fair for what they are offering us.
Software OTA updates are also coming every now and then which is good. The absence of AMOLEDdisplay is also a con since you can now get an AMOLED display for a lower price tag, however the super IPS display makes up for it. Overall, this is a good camera device, with nice camera and powerful internals. I can safely say that this is the mid-ranger to beat this year. So if you’re looking for a new phone with a sizable budget range, do consider purchasing the Zenfone 3, you won’t regret it.
