ASUS Zenfone 3 Review + Quick Unboxing
Today we will take a quick look and unbox one of the latest offerings of the ASUS brand on their Zenfone series, the Asus Zenfone 3 5.5 inch variant. Currently, ASUS released five new phones this year. namely the Zenfone 3, Zenfone 3 Ultra, Zenfone 3 Deluxe and the two more budget friendly Zenfone 3 Laser and Zenfone 3 Max. This mid-ranger model on paper will definitely garner some attention. So without further ado, let’s have a specs rundown of the new model.
- Qualcomm snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2.0ghz cpu speed
- 4Gb ram
- 64gb internal memory
- 5 inch Full HD IPS display with corning gorilla glass protection, 2.5D glass. 1920×1080 resolution
- 16 mp rear camera with Sony IMX298 senso, f2.0 aperture, 4 axis OIS 3 axis EIS 6 element largan lens, laser autofocus, phase detection AF, continuous focus,
- 8mp front camera, f2.9 aperture
- 3g LTE
- Hybrid Dual sim with one as SIM and memory card
- WII Bluetooth, GPS, A –GPS, Fingerprint scanner, USB type C
- Android 6 Marshmallow
- 3000mah Battery
As with the Zenfone series, the unit comes with a wall-type Charger, USB type C cord, pin ejector and other paper stuff. I hoped that ASUS be more generous say, including a case or memory card since most of the brands today include additional freebies as part of the marketing deal. Anyway it’s not a deal breaker though.
Design and Construction ASUS Zenfone 3
The design is remarkable as ASUS has leveled up in terms of aesthetics and device construction. The front is covered by a 5.5 inch full HD resolution, 2.5D screen. Both sides have corning gorilla glass protection. The screen itself is great, however I expected that ASUS also made this smartphone with AMOLED display to boost the viewing experience. Nevertheless, it is passable since viewing angles are great and reading under sunlight isn’t a problem.
Handling is easier now as compared to the previous Zenfone iterations. The curved designs made the phone easy to grip. The glass and metallic sides added a premium feel with similar to what you may find with the Samsung Galaxy s6. Top part has the 3-mm jack and noise cancelling mic. Right side has the volume rocker and power button with the famous eccentric design. Back part has the camera which is slightly protruded, the laser has autofocus and real tone flash. Bottom area has the speaker holes with 5 magnet NXP that boost the sound experience, microphone and the new usb type c charging and data port. However this doesn’t support fast charging unlike its predecessors.
Camera ASUS Zenfone 3
The front camera utilizes 8MP with f 2.0 aperture which is ideal for selfies and groupies. The rear camera on the other hand, uses a 16MP lens with Sony sensor which is very competitive in taking pictures even in low light condition. It also utilizes a new version of pixel master and laser which locks focus very fast and provides different shooting modes making this a core feature of the new model.
Battery ASUS Zenfone 3
The battery strength stays consistent with the other models at 3000 mA-h. The performance of new chipset and latest android version made the system efficient in battery performance given moderate to heavy use.
Performance ASUS Zenfone 3
So far, multitasking is a real breeze. Opening several apps on the background is not tasking on the phone. The latest qualcomm snapdragon processor performs very well which is paired with 4GB of spacious ram. Gaming and stress test will be discussed on the full review.
Over all initial impression ASUS Zenfone 3
This one is a real bang for the buck if you are really looking for a smartphone with a flagship like performance on a 20k below price. As of the moment, Zenfone 3 is priced at 18,995 pesos. For the specs, upgraded design and additional features this phone is a must see. This will be my daily driver on the coming days.
