Bega Falls can be found in the province of Agusan del Sur, in Barangay Mabuhay in the City of Prosperidad. It is the hidden treasure of the province. The waterfall is surrounded by the bountiful greenery of Agusan del Sur’s forests and mountain. The waterfall is a three-tiered fall and is absolutely a sight to behold. According to the local residents, especially the older ones, Bega Falls is the home of beautiful mystical women.
Legend has it that a beautiful diwata ( fairy) seduces men and lure them to the falls. Those who were tempted by the diwata were never again found. The falls got its name from the Visayan word biga which means “to flirt”. Whether the legend was true or not, anyone who sees this falls will surely be charmed by its beauty.
The trek will just take an hour. It has access to the road. While trekking going to the falls you can see exotic hanging ornamental plants along the way to the area and you will explore 18 falls, thick forests and wild birds before you reach Bega Falls.
How to get to Bega Falls
Jump-off point to Bega Falls is the Awa Junction of Maharlika Hiway, located in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur province. If you are coming from Butuan City, you can hop a bus bound for Davao and tell the driver to drop you off at Awa Junction in Prosperidad. From Butuan, Prosperidad is the town right after Bayugan City. If you are coming from Davao City, you can take a bus bound for Butuan City and tell the conductor to drop you off at Awa Junction in Prosperidad. From Davao, Prosperidad is the town right after San Francisco. The only transportation option to reach Bega Falls is only the habal-habal (a single motorcycle) Habal habal are readily available at the left side of the junction of the road. Special trips will cost you around Php 100-200 going to Brgy. Mabuhay. It is highly suggested that you hire the habal-habal for a return trip. The driver will wait for you at the access road to the falls.
