#1 The T.G.I.S. Barkada
Who could forget the teen barkada where all the teen craze on Philippine television started?
There’s the love triangle of Peachy (Angelu de Leon), Wacks (Bobby Andrews), and JM (Onemig Bondoc), the love quarrel relationship of “Superman” Mickey (Michael Flores) and the geeky girl Cris (Raven Villanueva), and the businesses of Kiko (Red Sternberg).
T.G.I.S aired in 1995, is one of the first youth-oriented series on Philippine TV.
#2 The Gimik Barkada
As an answer to GMA and VIVA’s T.G.I.S., ABS-CBN also came up with a teen-oriented show called Gimik, starred by Talent Center’s (now Star Magic) top artists such as Judy Ann Santos, Rico Yan, Diether Ocampo, Mylene Dizon, G. Toengi, Jolina Magdangal, and Marvin Agustin.
This teen oriented show also dealt with teens’ usual problems in love as reflected by the blossoming romance of Diane (Judy Ann) and Ricky (Rico), the poor girl-meets-rich boy love story of Melanie (Mylene) and Brian (Bojo Molina), and the cat-dog relationship of Ese (Jolina) and Joey (Marvin).
#3 Tabing Ilog
Dubbed as the Philippine’s version of Dawson’s Creek, mainly because a group of friends often hang out near an ilog (river).
This Sunday youth-oriented series starred the love teams of John Lloyd Cruz-Kaye Abad, Paula Peralejo-Patrick Garcia, Jodi Sta. Maria-Baron Geisler and Desiree Del Valle-Paolo Contis. They portray more serious problems such as financial problems in paying tuition fees, family problems, and even fix marriages.
#4 The Click Barkada
Remember the beautiful and handsome students of C.L.I.C?
Click is dubbed as the longest teen-oriented show in Philippine history, running for five years (1999 to 2004)
Just like other youth oriented shows, Click also portrayed adulting problems but this time, during high school and college years.
Starred by Chynna Ortaleza, Roxanne Barcelo, Tricia Roman, Alessandra de Rossi, Maybelyn dela Cruz, Sherwin Ordonez, Angelika dela Cruz, James Blanco and Biboy Ramirez.
#5 The K2BU Girls
It seems like the K2BU girls are the only barkada in this list consisted entirely of girls. Starred by Shaina Magdayao, Pia Wurtzbach (screen name Pia Romero back then), Bea Alonzo, and Angelene Aguilar, the show portrayed what girls go through during difficulties of puberty.
#6 The Berks Barkada
The word “Berks” became a hit in referring to one’s barkada during the early 2000s. It was aired in 2003 when ABS-CBN introduced Berks.
It was starred by Heart Evangelista and John Prats, along with Sarah Christophers, Karel Marquez, Hazel Ann Mendoza, Ketchup Eusebio, Glaiza de Castro, and Marc Acueza.
